PHOENIX, July 4 - Richard Grayson, Republican candidate for the U.S. House in Arizona's Fourth Congressional District, today issued a statement on the passing of former U.S. Senator Jesse Helms, Republican of North Carolina:
We are sorry to hear of the untimely death of Senator Jesse Helms. He was a racist, homophobic, anti-intellectual demagogue who had great appeal for the bigoted and the ignorant. As such, he will be missed greatly by many in Arizona's Republican party.
